If there’s anything that makes fall fell even closer than all the back-to-school displays lurking every big-box store and the mere three weeks remaining until September it’s a new Jens Lekman song. His last lp “Night Falls Over Kortedala” is a classic in my books, and one of those albums that remains in constant rotation for me as a nice piece of nostaligia from a strange time in my life… if you will
His new single “The End of the World Is Bigger Than Love” from his upcoming LP is a classic Jens pop affair with his quintessential quirky lyrics to boot. Enter your e-mail in the little box below to snag the download from Jens’ website.

I’ve always had an affinity for electronic music compilations, from bassline & d’n'b shenanigans to campy ibiza house music, I hoard those compilations like no other. Lately there’s been one series that I’ve found myself listening to constantly; Ministry of Sound’s “Chilled” series. As opposed to most chillout albums that are either too down or have too much vox on all the songs, but “Chilled” is neither here nor there (I mean that in the best way possible…) A nice mix of current tunes, classic chillout stuff, more acoustic and “indie” music, all carefully curated over several discs; worth checking out for sure.
From Chilled
Koop – Waltz for Koop
Groove Armada – Fireside Favourite
From Chilled II
Jean Jaques Smoothie – 2 People
Fatboy Slim – North West Three

Lindstrom & Prins Thomas – Feel AM

Anyone who keeps up with indie/electronic music has probably seen then name Breakbot before, having remixed the likes of Sebastien Tellier, Pnau, Royksopp, etc. He finally dropped his first single on Ed Banger last month, reminds me a lot of Gonzales, think the aforementioned style of piano pop meets french touch, pretty infectious.
Breakbot – Baby I’m Yours (Feat. Irfane)

Breakbot – Make You Mine
Oh, and he did a pretty cool mix for Dazed Digital, and of course, the essential “minimix” for annie mac as well. Cheers.

Although I can already hear the everyone exhalting their sighs at the idea of another mash-up album, but this one is actually pretty fresh. The XX’s self-titled and Notorious BIG. His rhymes chill perfectly with The XX’s post-punk jams. My fave is probably “Juicy-r” (VCR vs. Juicy), but all of them are pretty good… I thre up a few gems below, the whole album can be downloaded over at the creator’s blog, Wait What Music.

I’d forgotten about Opening Ceremony for a moment there, but after a visit to their epic new flagship in Tokyo I’ve been following the label once again. They just released this promo for their S/S2010 collection, a nice nouvelle-vague inspired bit from the Coppola clan (directed by Gia Coppola and starting Jason Schwartzman.) Of course OC’s so-cal preppy musings only make me yearn for summer even more.

Oops, the reboot of this blog has already turned into quite a sporadic affair. I guess that’s what happen when you have s.a.d. I wish I could segway this post into something more positive, but in reality it’s far more depressing. Daul Kim was found dead in her Paris apartment this morning, suicide apparently. All the deaths this year have kind of passed me by with a shrug this year, but for some reason I’m incredibly sad over the fact she’s passed. I guess it’s mostly due to the fact I always found her whole persona very relatable. Her blog entries always fluctuated between carefree and playful to frighteningly unsure and lost from posts to post. Something I always found terribly reminiscent of my own life. Before this posts devolves into more personal parallels between Daul Kim and myself I’ll just end by saving she was a truly beautiful person, and will be dearly missed.
Any special purchases recently?
“I just bought an Isabel Marant wolf coat. I’m usually very miserable, so I reward myself with a fur coat every year.”
Tahiti 80 – Dream On
I really haven’t paid much attention to florence + the machine since humming along to “Dog Days are Over” earlier this year, but apparently they’re quite huge now. Maybe in this particular arena of music you could mark how huge your band is by how many remixes and edits are sprawled across the blogsphere. You are the penultimate indie band when you have a whole album of remixes, anyways. Make sure to watch the video for the XX remix of their new single, she totally channels Kate Bush.

Each time I turn around my S/S2010 shopping list grows exponentially, but these Givenchy studded sandals have maintained their stay at the top of my list for quite a while now. Come January, they shall be minnnneeeee.
